On Wednesday, 11th March 2026, at Bishop Stuart University (BSU), International Women’s Day celebrations were held under the theme “#Give to Gain: Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls.”

The event was organized by Hon. Nasinguza Triivah, the Ministry of Gender and Affairs under the Guild Government. Dr. Alice Mwesigwa was the Guest of Honour for the function. Other distinguished guests included the Vice Chancellor of BSU, John F. Mugisha, who hosted the event, together with Garshom Atukunda, the Dean of Students, as well as other members of staff of the university.

During the celebrations, women were encouraged to be confident, believe in themselves, and remain persistent despite the barriers they face in workplaces and the challenges of low pay. They were also urged to follow their dreams and never give up.

Furthermore, speakers emphasized that empowerment is a key solution to achieving equality. Girls were encouraged to be determined, since determination is a driving force of power. They were also reminded to support one another and avoid falling for simple distractions that may hinder their progress.
